Job Title: Dean of the School of Health Professions

 GENERAL SUMMARY: This is a 12-month administrative position with faculty rank. Responsible for the development, accreditation, and oversight of Health Professions programming in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) and the College of Graduate and Extended Studies (CGES).

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. 30% Monitor the function of the School of Health Professions programs and faculty to maintain program effectiveness, accreditation standard compliance, and budgetary parameters;
  2. 30% Act in conjunction with the Program Director for each program of study to assure the cohesion, caliber, and accreditation of the education programs.
  3. 15% Market programs to the healthcare community, inclusive of prospective students and faculty.
  4. 25% Work closely with the Associate Provost for Innovation to enhance all aspects of the provision of education, the financial accountability of programming, the well-being of all faculty, staff, and students, and the general good reputation enjoyed by CMU.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

At least 75-100% of time is spent in managerial capacity. Directly supervises Program Directors, the Clinical Coordinators, and staff. Overload may be negotiated.

  1. Evaluate Program Directors, faculty, and staff performance annually and as needed. Discuss evaluations with faculty and provide copy to the Provost’s office, and the employee file. Guide faculty development.
  2. Resource day-to-day programmatic management by the Program Directors.
  3. Oversee the resolution of programmatic issues and complaints.
  4. Attend programmatic, departmental, and institutional faculty meetings.
  5. Participate in the recruitment and retention of students;
  6. Approve contractual agreements with clinical agencies prior to their submission to Senior Staff for signature.
  7. Liaison with the Assistant Dean of Online Programming to assure course structure and schedule parameters are communicated to Program Directors and remain in congruence with CMU guidelines and requirements;
  8. Ensure the Program Coordinators for the BSN-G, BSN-C, and ABSN maintain the congruency of coursework and evaluation strategies for the bachelor’s-level programs;
  9. Ensure appropriate faculty recruitment;
  10. Provide leadership to the faculty in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation;
  11. Serve on University-wide, CLAS, or CGES committees as requested;
  12. Oversee the accreditation processes for all programs and ensure appropriate compliance with standards;
  13. Meet regularly with Program Directors. Preside at Divisional meetings.
  14. Oversee the development of programmatic budgets and submit them to the Provost of the University. Oversee budget expenditures.
  15. Provide leadership in total program assessment/revision and new program development.
  16. Assist with development and implementation of new graduate programs.
  17. Further professional development by participation in professional organizations and/or continuing education programs and workshops.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Administrative experience preferred.

PhD in nursing or related field (with MSN) or DNP required

Current, unencumbered, Missouri nursing license.

Approval by the Missouri State Board of Nursing as a faculty member.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequently stand and/or sit for at least one hour consecutively.

Operate classroom and meeting audio-visual equipment.

Speak loudly and clearly enough to be understood by students.

Communication: The Program Administrator must be able to utilize effective communication with peers, subordinates, students and their families, other educational providers, and other constituents of the community of interest. This includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Ability to effectively interpret and process written and verbal information.
  2. Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing).
  3. Ability to access information and to communicate and document effectively via computer.
  4. Ability to recognize, interpret, and respond to nonverbal behavior of self and others.
  5. Consistently demonstrate a professional presentation that upholds the Central Methodist University mission statements and philosophy.

Behavior: The Program Administrator must be capable of exercising good judgment, developing empathetic and therapeutic relationships with others. This includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Ability to work with multiple students/families and colleagues at the same time.
  2. Ability to foster and maintain cooperative and collegial relationships with students, faculty, and peers.
  3. Ability to provide faculty leadership and support faculty development.

Critical Thinking: The Program Administrator must possess sufficient abilities in the areas of calculation, critical problem solving, reasoning, and judgment to be able to comprehend and process information within a reasonable time frame. The Program Administrator must be able to prioritize, organize, and attend to responsibilities efficiently. This includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Ability to collect, interpret and analyze written, verbal and observed data.
  2. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, integrate information and make decisions.
  3. Ability to apply knowledge of the principles, indications, and contraindications for nursing educational processes.
  4. Ability to act safely and ethically in the classroom and in the community.
  5. Ability to lead others in a professional manner.
